Mini mania spread through Asia in 1990, as nearly 25 MiniΓÇÖs were sold in Japan every week.
In 1992 Mini gained additional security including an alarm, immobiliser and security windscreen etching.
In 1995 BMW bought Rover Group, including Mini.
October 1996 and the Mini received the biggest re-working in its history with the launch of the 1997 Model Year. The car now had multi-point fuel injection, revised gear ratios, a driverΓÇÖs air-bag, side impact bars, seat belt pre-tensioners, and a whole host of new options and accessories including a 2-speed heater fan.
1998 and the total number of Minis sold was over 5.5 million. ΓÇÿTitanicΓÇÖ grabbed a handful of Oscars and became the biggest blockbuster of all time.
Minis 40th birthday party is to be held at Silverstone, in August 1999.
